Social Development

We believe we have a responsibility to contribute to the communities in which we operate through various initiatives.
Our ambition is to offer growth opportunities for diversity and inclusion that reflect our values and whose impact is positive for the whole of society.

We want the initiatives we support to make a real, permanent difference, that is why we ensure that they are designed based on the needs of the community and deliver on local priorities. At AFA we are not only committed to our business, but also to contributing a percentage of our profits to support various socio-economic development programmes.

SHORT TERM - FOOD SECURITY

Mandela Day

Nelson Mandela international day is an annual day celebrated on 18 July in honour of Nelson Mandela's birthday. The day was officially declared by the United Nations and the aim is to give back to the community.

In honour of Mandela Day, the AFA team partnered with Rise Against Hunger Africa in its fight to end child hunger by donating food hampers and participating in their national food drive. The team packaged over 3000 fully balanced meals that were delivered to preschool children to further their holistic development.

MEDIUM TERM - EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT

Supporting
Communities

Our commitment to social development extends beyond giving. We invest in our country’s future by focusing on sustainable initiatives that impact the communities we support.

Princess Alice Adoption Home

A temporary place of safety which provides 24-hour residential care to babies and toddlers who have been consented for adoption, abandoned, or occasionally removed from family care. The home is also a haven for up to four pregnant girls who are destitute or in crisis.

Door of Hope & Adopt-A-Cot

Provides homes for abandoned babies & children and is regularly supported by our Gauteng office. AFA has ‘adopted’ Baby-T, who was found abandoned at a dumping site on the East Rand. AFA has funded all her expenses and she is now developing well and is a healthy and strong little girl. She really enjoys her feeds and loves all the attention she receives from the aunties. We have regular feedback and monitor Baby-T’s growth and development.

Community Outreach Program Trust (COPT)

Our KwaZulu-Natal office contributes to this faith-based non-profit organisation (NPO) that is committed to changing lives within the community through educational initiatives that help the most vulnerable and disadvantage of our people.

Home of Hope

Our Western Cape team provides funding for the development and upliftment of children within their community through Home of Hope. This non-profit organisation (NPO) cares for abused and abandoned children. They also provide education to children with special needs and help them become productive members of the community.

Santa Shoe box

Santa Shoebox project is an annual even that appeals to communities to donate personalised gifts of essential items and treats for underprivileged children throughout South Africa. The project collects and distributes these gift boxes to the children and have reached over 1 million children so far.

AFA donates a substantial number of gift boxes each year and continuously volunteers time to the project. We have also offered to become a collection point in the long term.

LONG TERM - EDUCATION

Thandulwazi Maths and Science Academy:

The academy provides effective extra tuition and teaching in core subjects (mathematics, physical science, life sciences, English and accounting) to more than 1000 learners in grade 9-12. Students are from high schools across previously disadvantaged communities in Gauteng. AFA is a proud benefactor and contributor.

Ikamva Youth’s Community Collaboration Programme

The programme exists to serve and strengthen a wide network of organisations that are committed to enabling the youth of South Africa to reach their potential. The vision is to help all children to pass grade 12 and to access post-school opportunities that will lead to them earning a dignified living. AFA is a proud benefactor and contributor.

Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme (ISFAP):

is a national effort to solve the funding challenge faced by the ‘missing middle’ students. The programme arose from #FeesMustFall protests and seeks to provide needs-based assistance to students from poor and working classes in Occupations of High Demand.

The program will improve their meaningful participation in the growth of the economy – thereby advancing equal opportunity and equitable income distribution for all South Africans. AFA is a proud benefactor and contributor.
